Cet article se penche sur la représentation des consommateurs de drogues montréalais véhiculée dans le journal La Patrie , entre 1921 et 1923 , au moment où la métropole vit un épisode de panique morale. Il sera démontré que le discours sur les dangers associés à l’usage récréatif des drogues reflète les préoccupations sociales et morales propres à l’espace montréalais. En ce sens, cette analyse nuance l’importance du racisme envers les Sino-Canadiens comme moteur de la répression des usagers non médicaux de drogues. Les réformateurs moraux de la métropole sont plutôt préoccupés par la consommation domestique, soit celle des jeunes et des femmes blanches canadienne, comme en témoigne le discours de panique du quotidien.
