Abstract
The practice of spmb [Sao Paulo-Manitoba] was formed from spatial references initially understood as dichotomous, defined by the contrasting experiences between the South (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and the North (Winnipeg, Canada). The fascination with an ideal of modernity, where the American continent is seen as a contiguous phenomenon, forming a single territory, made trans- territoriality (Sao Paulo-Winnipeg) a key indication for the practice. The image of a map that folds, where the geographical positions of SP and MB converge to a single point, suggests the exchange of experiences as a strategy for the reinvention of program, and, as a consequence, of the design. In spmb: 2 projects we articulate these positions from two emblematic projects that have been generated from the trans-territorial, thus informing a new spatial configuration – while Flatbox is a direct allusion to the prairie landscape, Plage is a synthesis of the beach while physical-political-cultural phenomenon.
