Abstract

Les pompiers et paramédics du Québec acquièrent une acuité visuelle spécifique, un regard expert. Ce regard expert est à la fois une technique du corps efficace pour percevoir les signes et symptômes des patients et à la fois porteur d’une vision du monde. À partir de données ethnographiques, cet article s’intéressera à ce regard expert sous deux angles. Premièrement, nous analyserons l’acquisition de cette technique du corps et sa pertinence en intervention, plus particulièrement pour l’élaboration d’hypothèses diagnostiques. Deuxièmement, nous montrerons comment les perceptions sensorielles et leurs mémorisations peuvent être marquées par les contextes d’urgence tout autant que par la lenteur des interventions non urgentes et des périodes d’attente entre les appels. Nous conclurons en portant un regard réflexif sur les transformations perceptuelles vécues en tant qu’anthropologue sur le terrain.
