Le requin peau bleue « Prionace glauca » est un requin pélagique, de la famille des Carcharhinidés, formant le maillon supérieur de la chaine trophique. Depuis Février 2015, des vertèbres du requin bleu ont été collectées et conservées au congélateur. Au laboratoire, trois groupes de vertèbres du même individu ont été préparés ; vertèbres entières, vertèbres entières et brûlées et coupes de vertèbres. Ces trois groupes de vertèbres ont été ensuite observés sous une loupe binoculaire. Les opérations de lecture d’âge réalisées sur des vertèbres entières et sur des coupes de vertèbres du même individu ont montré des résultats identiques. Le même constat a été noté par les scientifiques du Canada qui ont réalisé des études bioécologiques sur la dite espèce. Dans notre cas, on a pensé à brûler les vertèbres pour mettre en évidence les anneaux et faciliter subséquemment le comptage de ces derniers. La méthode de lecture directe des vertèbres avec brûlage permettra d’économiser énormément le coût et le temps consacré pour réaliser des coupes.
