Abstract
In begin december van het afgelopen jaar werd de topvrouw van de Chinese telecomgigant Huawei, Meng Wanzhou,in Canada gearresteerd op verdenking van illegale leveranties van hoogwaardige telecom-infrastructuur door Huaweiaan Iran. Het verzoek tot de arrestatie van deze topvrouw van Huawei en dochter van de oprichter van het bedrijf, Ren Zhengfei, was afkomstig van de Amerikaanse justitie. De Chinese autoriteiten hebben fel gereageerd op de arrestatie van de Chinese topvrouw. Een aanval op Huawei, het paradepaardje van de Chinese hightechbedrijven, wordt door de Chinese autoriteiten gezien als een aanval op de Chinese staat. Interessant is dat het tijdstip van de arrestatie van Meng Wanzhou samenvalt met de ‘wapenstilstand’ die de Amerikaanse president Donald Trump en zijn Chinese tegenhanger Xi Jinping op de G20-top in Buenos Aires voor een periode van drie maanden hebben gesloten in de handelsoorlog tussen de beide grootmachten. In principe wordt de periode die loopt tot eind februari van dit jaar gebruikt om tot een handelsakkoord te komen.
