Główny problem szkicu dotyczy korespondencji myślowej Stefana Żeromskiego z postawą Brata Alberta, który stał prototypem „kulawego starca” w pierwszej części trylogii powieściowej Walka z szatanem. Autorka zastanawia się, czy pisarz poznał osobiście Brata Alberta, dlaczego Nawracanie Judasza nie zrobiło na nim najlepszego wrażenia, a także nad kwestią, na ile postawa głównego bohatera Nawracania Judasza jest konsekwencją światopoglądowych przekonań twórcy, a na ile pewne rysy osobowości postaci literackiej zostały wykreowane pod wpływem zaciekawienia Żeromskiego intrygującą historią życia Adama Chmielowskiego-Brata Alberta.
