Abstract
Les pôles magnétiques ont toujours exercé une fascination. Notamment par leur blancheur, sillonnée par quelques Esquimaux pour l’Arctique… À la différence de l’Antarctique, l’Arctique est habitée. Ce peuple du Canada s’est récemment rebaptisé Inuit, revendiquant par là ses propres représentations environnementales, territoriales, paysagères, intimement liées à celles de sa société et de sa culture autochtone. Un point de vue des Inuit du Nunavik ignoré des Occidentaux parce que longtemps écarté par le processus d’assimilation coloniale. Un regard Inuit original qui porte sur des territoires non considérés comme vierges, ni toujours blancs de neige.
