Abstract
The production of radiopharmaceuticals and radiotracers requires a structure that involves the extraction of ore, transport to the place where they will benefit and, after this stage, their storage or transport to hospitals and clinics. One of the most used radiotracers is the Tc-99m, currently imported. Its use includes diagnosis of cancer, kidney, heart and brain diseases, among others. This work brings a bibliographical research, describing the package that is used in the transport of the Tc-99m radionuclide. This radionuclide will be inserted into the generator that will be taken to hospitals that will use it as a radiopharmaceutical (therapy) or radiotracer (diagnosis). The packages used today were imported by companies that no longer certify them for use. In addition, the construction of the Brazilian multipurpose reactor (RMB), implies having packages for the transport of radionuclides, mainly the Tc-99m, which has wide use in medicine. Thus, a new requirement was born: that of creating a national product, with a value reasonably close to that purchased previously, if possible with a smaller size and mass, so that there are means of maintaining the transport of raw materials and products not only for medicine, but also for areas such as industry, agronomy and others. This work focused on the packaging produced by the company Nordion of Canadian, used for the transport of Mo-99 for later use in Tc-99m generators, analyzing the existing one and proposing possible alternatives to be produced in the country. The radiation shielding material indicated by the Nordion documentation is a metal, depleted uranium. An evaluation of an existing specimen was made, suggesting uranium for shield and various materials for the other parts. The methodology adopted was bibliographic and field research (for knowledge of the object). As a result, casks with thickness and mass for shield were presented close to those currently used. v SUMRIO
