Abstract
Alors que l’institutionalisation de la psychologie suscitait la fascination pour l’inconscient dans la France fïn-de-siècle, les artistes symbolistes montraient leur vif désir de pictorialiser cet état. Les pièces de théâtre et les affiches produites pour le Théâtre d’art symboliste de Paul Fort tendaient à déstabiliser la pensée rationnelle en remettant en question la perception visuelle conventionnelle. Désigné par Jules Bois comme « l’art inconscient », le style des illustrations de théâtre des Nabis représentait la transcendance du moi et la pénétration de l’inconscient créatif à travers différentes métaphores visuelles de la dissolution.
