Abstract
Pernikahan merupakan salah satu sunah yang dianjurkan, ia juga sunnah para rasul sepanjang masa. Berkaitan dengan masalah pernikahan, tujuan dan esensi pernikahan adalah untuk mewujudkan rasa sakinah, mawaddah, dan warahmah, bagi pasangan suami istri serta melanjutkan keturunan. Meskipun demikian, pada kondisi-kondisi tertentu, Islam tidak melarang adanya pembatasan kelahiran anak dengan mengkonsumsi obat pencegah kehamilan, atau dengan menggunakan alat kontrasepsi. Islam sangat menganjurkan umatnya untuk memiliki banyak keturunan, yang tentunya keturunan yang banyak tersebut betul-betul diharapkan kebermanfaatannya, bukan justru mengacaukan dan memperburuk wajah Islam dan umatnya. Sedikit yang berkualitas lebih baik dari pada banyak yang tidak berkualitas.” Ini hakikat yang diakui oleh ilmuan dan agamawan.
