Abstract
Introduction Projeter le fardeau du cancer est important pour l’évaluation des stratégies de prévention et la gestion prévisionnelle aux centres d’oncologie. Méthodologie Nous avons projeté le taux d’incidence du cancer et le nombre de cas de cancer pour la population du Manitoba à l’aide de projections démographiques provenant du Bureau des statistiques du Manitoba pour la période 2006-2025 et de données sur l’incidence du cancer issues du Registre du cancer du Manitoba pour la période 1976-2005. Les données ont été analysées au moyen d’une version modifiée du modèle âge-période-cohorte élaborée et évaluée dans les pays nordiques. Résultats Selon les projections, l’incidence globale du cancer au Manitoba ne devrait pas varier considérablement entre 2006 et 2025. L’incidence du cancer du poumon normalisée selon l’âge devrait diminuer, en particulier chez les hommes, ce qui met en évidence l’importance de la prévention en matière de tabagisme. Le nombre total de nouveaux cas de cancer par année devrait augmenter de 36 % pendant la période visée par les projections, une augmentation attribuable principalement aux changements démographiques. Conclusion La planification des ressources et des infrastructures devra tenir compte de l’augmentation prévue des cas de cancer, en lien avec l’accroissement de la population du Manitoba.
