Les blessures affectent d'une manière disproportionnée les enfants des milieux défavorisés. La présente étude examine les liens entre les dimensions matérielle et sociale de la défavorisation et les hospitalisations pour les cas de blessures chez les enfants québécois âgés de 14 ans et moins au cours de la période 2000-2004. Les données d'hospitalisations proviennent du fichier québécois Med-Écho, tandis que les caractéristiques socio-économiques des individus ont été estimées sur la base des plus petites unités géographiques pour laquelle les données du recensement canadien sont diffusées. Des risques relatifs d'hospitalisation ont été calculés pour sept catégories de traumatismes non intentionnels à l'aide de la régression de Poisson. Au total, 24 540 hospitalisations pour blessures ont été examinées. Chez les enfants, les risques d'hospitalisation sont associés aux deux dimensions de la défavorisation. Les mécanismes de traumatismes suivants sont clairement associés aux deux dimensions de la défavorisation : traumatismes aux piétons et aux occupants de véhicule à moteur et blessures liées aux brûlures et aux intoxications. Ces inégalités devraient être considérées dans l'élaboration de mesures préventives.
