A pesquisa, em termos gerais, busca compreender como se efetivou a educação de cunho popular oportunizada pela Prelazia de Cametá às suas bases.Em termos específicos , analisar a formação e informação das bases pela Prelazia ,se está direcionou essa formação para a luta política, bem como observar quais resultados dessa educação tornaram-se visíveis. Desta forma, o objeto de estudo partiu da hipótese que a formação propagada na Prelazia durante a administração de Dom José Elias (1980 a 1999) desenvolveu-se sob viés político, formando com isso lideranças nos municípios de Cametá, Igarapé-Miri e Oeiras do Pará, que assumiram o Legislativo, Secretarias de Governo, Conselhos Municipais, etc., Logo, encaminharam-se análises sobre a atuação da Igreja Católica de Cametá com a educação popular, partindo do pressuposto de que a Prelazia de Cametá, nas décadas de 1980 e 1990, viabilizou educação de cunho popular às suas bases.
