В статье выявляются характер и условия профессиональной подготовки русских ремесленно- художественных кадров у мастеров французской колонии Санкт-Петербурга при Петре Великом. С опорой на архивные материалы впервые систематизированы сведения об учениках Б. Рас- трелли, Ф.-П. Вассу, Н. Пино, Ж. де Сен-Лорана, А. Кардасье, Ф. Пильмана, Л. Каравака и др. Исследуются сложившиеся благодаря «школьному делу» русско-французские художественные связи. Анализируя творческие успехи скульптора В.Л. Кобелева, чеканщика О. Тимофеева, живописца С. Бушуева и других русских мастеров, прошедших «французскую науку», ав- тор дает общую оценку результативности педагогического труда художников и декораторов Французской слободы. Сделан вывод о том, что педагогические усилия слободских мастеров при Петре I не принесли тех плодов, на которые рассчитывала российская сторона. Наряду с прочими иноземцами, французы сумели подготовить некоторое количество квалифицирован- ных ремесленников (резчиков, литейщиков, столяров, живописцев), однако, за очень редкими исключениями, не смогли воспитать художников мирового уровня.
