Cette années 2018 clôture les commémorations du centenaire de la première guerre mondiale. De ces commémorations, on retiendra l’absence scandaleuse de la Force Publique malgré les multiples victoires qu’elle a remportées en Zambie, au Cameroun et en Tanzanie. Ainsi, le 11 novembre dernier, lors des cérémonies du centenaire de l'Armistice de la Première Guerre mondiale, alors que des drapeaux belges, britanniques, canadiens défilaient au côté de l'étendard d'anciennes colonies du Royaume-Uni, on ne pouvait que s’étonner de l’absence de tout drapeau congolais. Cette absence, ce silence, ne sont pas de simples oublis. Ce ne sont pas des oublis innocents. Les autorités compétentes ont été sollicitées chaque année pour travailler en commun à l’inclusion de la colonie dans les récits nationaux et les commémorations. A l’heure des bilans, force est de constater que la Belgique s’est distinguée par son refus, par son incapacité à mettre en œuvre une véritable politique de reconnaissance de son passé colonial et de la contribution des colonies lors de la Grande Guerre.
