Abstract
Dans Triptyque (Claude Simon) et The English Patient (Michael Ondaatje) le paysage ne fonctionne pas uniquement comme le fond contre lequel se joue l’action diégétique. Les paysages géographiques et urbains qui y sont représentés mettent en place des stimuli visuels, et participent ainsi à l’enchevêtrement des différents fils diégétiques de chaque roman. Cette étude comparatiste s’appuie sur le sens du mot paysage dans la géographie ainsi que son acception dans le domaine des beaux-arts afin de penser l’agencement des traits formels et stylistiques des romans étudiés. Notre analyse se présente comme une exploration de ce que nous appelons le paysage romanesque du texte, qui correspond aux traits formels, et du paysage rhétorique, qui correspond aux traits stylistiques.
