Abstract
En 1967, année du centenaire de la Confédération canadienne, la tenue à Montréal d’une grande Exposition universelle internationale (« Expo 67 ») a permis à maints compositeurs québécois et canadiens d’atteindre un public large et varié. Trois oeuvres particulièrement marquantes ont été diffusées quotidiennement à l’intérieur de pavillons de l’Exposition. Tandis que Serge Garant concevait une musique de film pour le pavillon thématique L’homme et les régions polaires (oeuvre instrumentale qui deviendra un an plus tard Amuya), Gilles Tremblay réalisait la sonorisation du pavillon du Québec et Otto Joachim créait dans son studio privé l’oeuvre Katimavik, destinée au pavillon du Canada mais diffusée en plein air et entièrement élaborée à partir de sons électroniques. Différents documents montrent que ces trois oeuvres, d’une esthétique indéniablement moderne, ont été conçues en fonction d’un contexte et d’un espace public très particulier, et que leur impact sur le grand public et la critique fut considérable.
