炎症性腸疾患(IBD)に関節症状が合併することはよく知られた事実であるがその詳細はほとんど調査されていない。わが国では潰瘍性大腸炎患者数が急増していることを考慮すると,今後IBDに伴う脊椎関節炎の増加も予想される。海外の報告に比べ合併率は6 %前後で,体軸,末梢とも低いが,体軸では無症候性に関節構造の変化が進行する例もあり,注意を要する。患者はもとよりそれぞれの治療担当医も腸症状と関節症状の関連を理解していないことが多く,関節専門医と消化器専門医による横断的診療連携や患者教育が重要である。
