Abstract

-- ABSTRACT: The St. Lawrence Estuary (SLE) and Gulf of St.Lawrence (GSL) is home to several krill species that are an important part of the zooplankton community, key organisms in the food web. Very little is known yet about krill population dynamics in the SLE and GSL and their possible responses to climate change. This master's project, conducted as part of the NSERC-Srategic Project "KRILL", had for primarily objective to acquire new knowledge about the population dynamics of a subarctic krill species, Thysanoessa raschii, in the SLE-GSL system. This project focused mainly on two components of the total growth of T. raschii: somatic growth and reproduction. This study had two main objectives: 1) describe seasonal variations in somatic growth and reproduction of T. raschii and 2) analyze the functional relationships between somatic growth, reproduction and environmental conditions in response to biotic and biotic factors. \nThe first research hypothesis was that somatic growth and reproductive events are synchronised with the phytoplankton bloom. Our results showed a seasonal pattern of somatic growth and reproduction influenced by chl. a where values increased during spring to remain high throughout the summer and decreased afterward during fall. The second research hypothesis was that somatic growth and reproduction increase with water temperature up to a critical value inducing a decrease in metabolic functions. Our results showed optimal windows of temperature outside of which negative effects were observed. Finally, the third research hypothesis was that somatic growth and reproduction are highly dependent on phytoplankton concentration owing to the herbivorous regime of T. raschii. Our results showed that a minimum concentration of chl. a was necessary to induce a positive effect on the somatic growth and reproduction of T. raschii. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : Thysanoessa raschii, St. Lawrence Estuary, somatic growth, egg production, instantaneous growth rate.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
