Chez les Kuikuro du Haut-Xingu il existe un genre de musique rituelle de flûte appelé Kagutu . Dans le mythe d’origine de cette musique, les esprits appelés Itseke chantent les suites Kagutu en prononçant chacun leur nom propre au début des pièces. Dans cet article nous analysons la façon dont la musique instrumentale évoque certains traits de la langue kuikuro au moyen d’un processus d’imitation musicale de la structure prosodique des noms propres. Le langage est en outre un support mnémonique lors de la phase d’apprentissage de la musique rituelle, et ceci grâce à un processus reposant sur l’utilisation d’un système codifié de succession de syllabes. Dans la deuxième partie de l’article nous montrons que non seulement chez les Kuikuro il est possible de parler d’une structuration linguistique de la matière musicale, mais aussi d’une musicalité propre à la langue parlée. Cette idée est exprimée par les Kuikuro principalement dans le discours local sur les différences dialectales caribe du haut-Xingu.
