En este trabajo se describe la manera en la que se aplicó el modelo de Estes para estudiar y simular el aprendizaje de la mano de obra en una tarea específica de construcción. Se presenta el modelo estocástico de dicho autor, para luego aplicarlo utilizando datos de productividad de mano de obra correspondientes a la actividad de elaboración de muros en bloques de concreto, en la construcción masiva de vivienda de interés social, en la ciudad de Mérida, México. Se recopilaron datos de productividad de dicha actividad en 15 casos, involucrando diferentes cuadrillas que trabajaban para diversas compañías. Con los datos recabados se calcularon tanto los valores teóricos, como los promedios reales de las tasas de aprendizaje. Este trabajo concluye que con base en los datos obtenidos, las cuadrillas llegan a tener su productividad máxima a partir del segundo día de haber iniciado la ejecución de la actividad. Asimismo, que la variabilidad entre los niveles de producción de las cuadrillas analizadas no se puede imputar solamente a las destrezas de los individuos, sino a la organización de las cuadrillas, la situación en el sitio de trabajo y la administración de las empresas en las que trabajan.
