Abstract
A violência contra a mulher tem se mostrado crescente em quase todos os países. No Brasil não tem sido diferente, caracterizando-se por agressões cometidas, principalmente, por pessoas de convívio cotidiano da vítima. Sendo assim, o presente artigo tem por principal objetivo discutir algumas das questões fundamentais, inerentes à violência contra a mulher, no que tange à sua historicidade, evolução e mecanismos jurídicos de combate. A questão-problema a ser respondida ao final do presente artigo é: o que tem sido feito, no Brasil, para tentar minimizar a violência contra a mulher? Vale dizer que, do ponto de vista metodológico, este artigo foi desenvolvido por meio de pesquisa de cunho bibliográfica, combinada com pesquisa documental, composta – esta última – por dados estatísticos publicados em periódicos de alguns órgãos de pesquisa brasileiros.
