Abstract
A Etnozoologia analisa a relação entre as comunidades humanas e a fauna local. A zooterapia se destaca como uma de suas subáreas e apresenta as práticas ligadas ao uso de remédios à base de animais. Objetivou-se analisar o uso medicinal de animais e subprodutos em duas comunidades rurais no cerrado nordestino brasileiro. Desenvolveu-se o estudo a partir da aplicação de formulários semiestruturados a 16 famílias de duas comunidades rurais. As espécies com maior número de citações foram: Lycalopex vetulus (raposa), Gallus gallus domesticus (galinha) e o Euphractus sexcinctus (tatu peba). Foi percebido que devido ao contato com a natureza, comunidades humanas desenvolveram saberes acerca da utilização de medicamentos à base de animais para o tratamento de doenças como gripe, asma e inflamações na garganta. Entretanto, a ação antrópica vem causando impactos ambientais negativos como, por exemplo, uma expressiva diminuição na densidade populacional de diversas espécies de animais na natureza.
