Jitta occupait un espace intellectuel particulier, entre universalisme et nationalisme et entre perspectives théoriques centrées sur l’État et celles qui prenaient pour point de mire l’individu. Sa pensée formait une alternative différente, assez radicale, à la théorie et à la méthodologie dominantes du droit international privé de son temps. Il rejetait la compréhension traditionnelle de la méthode de Savigny destinée à localiser les questions juridiques transnationales, contestait fondamentalement la prémisse selon laquelle on pouvait choisir un droit au mépris de son contenu, refusait de centrer sa perspective sur le concept de souveraineté des États. Pourtant, ses projets initiaux de réforme radicale ont évolué dans un sens plus pragmatique au contact des importantes transformations socio-politiques survenues après la Première Guerre mondiale. Cette progression offre beaucoup à apprendre tout en appelant à une réflexion critique.
