Abstract
Si bien existen algunos antecedentes históricos muy antiguos en la relación bilateral entre el Perú y Canadá, lamentablemente estos han sido poco estudiados. Así, por ejemplo, se tiene conocimiento de las exploraciones realizadas en la costa de la Columbia Británica. De igual forma, tenemos las actuaciones del vice-cónsul honorario del Perú en Quebec desde 1875, la del Cónsul del Perú en Vancouver desde 1932 o la del Comisario para Asuntos Comerciales canadiense en Lima, desde 1929 (MRE, 2019), que ponen en evidencia que más allá de no existir relaciones diplomáticas entre ambos Estados en el siglo XIX y parte del XX, estas sí existieron en al ámbito consular, producto de la necesidad de velar por la situación de los inmigrantes peruanos radicados en algunas ciudades de ese país, como también de los negocios que ellos venían desarrollando en el campo comercial. Se trataba, sin duda, de los primeros contactos, algunos de los cuales ni siquiera tenían un carácter oficial, pero que permiten conocer lo remoto de estos antecedentes, que sirvieron de base para continuar el largo camino de construcción de nuestro relacionamiento.
