Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

-- ABSTRACT: Background: When an experienced nurse in a non intensive care unit begins to work in the intensive care, she will encounter a lot of different stressors during the first year. By living with the stressors, she will cope and adapt by using her resources and developing coping strategies. By understanding the experienced nurse ability to adapt to the practice in the intensive care, we could help improve retention in this environment where it is currently difficult. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to better understand the adaptation of the experienced nurse in the first year of intensive care practice, describing the stressors, resources, and coping strategies. Theoretical framework: Lazarus & Folkman's (1984) transactional model of stress and coping was used in this study. Method: This qualitative descriptive research describes the nurse's stressors, resources and coping strategies. Semi-structured and group interviews as well as field notes were used to enrich the data collection. The data was analyzed according to the principles of content analysis. Results: Twelve experienced nurses (n = 12) of less than one year of intensive care practice (beginner ICU nurses) participated in the study. The sources of stress identified come from the context of practice in intensive care or the beginner nurse's perceptions. \nThe beginner nurse uses different personal, social and organizational resources to adapt. She also develops coping strategies that focus on the emotion, the problem or the search of social support. Discussion: The results of this study have led to recommendations for practice, training, research and management. By promoting the best strategies to develop to beginner nurses in the critical care, we hope it will ease their integration and ensure their retention. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : nurses, beginner, adaptation, critical care nursing, coping, stressors, resources, coping strategies.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
