Common Mode Voltage Cancellation Using SHM-PAM for 3Phase Compact Multilevel Inverters

Abstract
This paper presents a Selective Harmonic Mitigation-Pulse Amplitude Modulation (SHM-PAM) for 3phase compact multilevel inverter to eliminate Common Mode Voltage (CMV) and mitigate selected non-triplen harmonics. As CMV just includes triplen orders, an angles condition is obtained for five-/nine-level low frequency voltage to suppress all triplen that results in CMV cancellation. Then, the harmonics amplitudes are formulated using the attained angles condition to form the proposed SHM-PAM. The angles as well as input dc voltage index are calculated by regular operation of SHM-PAM. THD analyses are also done to obtain SHM variables while minimum possible THD is achieved. Some simulation and experimental tests are accomplished on 3phase Packed E-Cell (PEC) as compact multilevel inverter to evaluate the theoretical analysis of the proposed SHM and to confirm CMV suppression along with mitigation of determined non-triplen orders.
