Abstract
Les objets ordinaires présents dans nos maisons peuvent être étudiés en tant qu’expression de catégories culturelles fondamentales : les relations familiales de filiation et de mariage, les formes de la distinction sociale et la construction d’identités sociales. On peut aussi voir dans ces objets l’engagement et le dévouement aux valeurs « sacrées » et aux « thèmes ultimes », au sens de ces termes dans la théorie de la « religion invisible » de Thomas Luckmann. Cet article propose de fusionner cette théorie avec les « new material culture studies » (« nouvelles tendances de la recherche en culture matérielle »), en analysant la « singularisation » (Igor Kopytoff) ou la « densification » (Annette Weiner) des objets ordinaires de la culture de masse. Plus précisément, certains résultats d’une recherche ethnographique menée dans des foyers de la classe moyenne et de familles populaires de certaines villes de Toscane sont discutés. En particulier, l’analyse se concentre sur les « objets d’affection » ou « reliques personnelles », sur les « archives de la mémoire » et sur les différentes manières dont les photographies sont présentées dans l’environnement domestique.
