Directeur spirituel de Catherine de Sienne, Raymond de Capoue fut aussi son premier biographe: sa Legenda maior, rédigée vers 1385-1395, quelques années seulement après la mort de la Sainte (1380), connut une diffusion importante en latin, et également dans de nombreuses langues vernaculaires.Piotr Tylus consacre ce gros volume à l'édition des versions françaises, toutes les deux du XV e siècle, une version «longue», plus proche du texte latin, transmise par deux manuscrits, et une version abrégée, dont six manuscrits sont conservés.Cette section n'est pas sans présenter quelques faiblesses, entre autres bibliographiques: les études sur Jean Miélot, évoquées à propos de la Vie de sainte Catherine (d'Alexandrie) que celui-ci a traduite en 1457, ont bien progressé après les
