Les modifications de l’environnement induites par des facteurs mondiaux, comme le changement climatique, ou par des facteurs locaux, comme l’extraction minière, affectent plusieurs populations andines, comme les Q’ero (Andes péruviennes). Les enjeux entraînent nombre de controverses, tant dans le domaine politique que théorique. Bien que des liens existent par exemple entre le discours scientifique sur l’évolution du climat et les observations autochtones relatives à l’environnement naturel, de nombreux acteurs aux réalités spécifiques cohabitent. Au moyen d’une approche d’ontologie politique, cet article entend montrer qu’il existe non seulement des points de vue différents concernant les solutions attendues, mais aussi, à un stade beaucoup plus précoce, des manières différentes de comprendre les facteurs impliqués, leurs causes et leurs effets. En effet, seule une partie du problème peut être nettement mise en évidence par la dichotomie conceptuelle entre nature et culture ou, en d’autres termes, entre faits physiques et interprétations culturelles. Dans de telles situations controversées, les dualismes stricts et imperméables ne durent pas longtemps.
