Abstract
L’approche métrologique est encore rare dans les études céramologiques. Elle vise principalement à déterminer l’existence de capacités ou d’unités standardisées. L’insuccès des quelques rares tentatives d’établir une équivalence précise entre un vase céramique et une unité de capacité volumétrique ne doit cependant pas aboutir à un abandon des recherches métrologiques. Au contraire, il faut systématiser les mesures du volume des pots. Une étude conduite sur la céramique Khabour montre que ce type d’approche permet de dépasser le stade des études chrono-stratigraphiques. Grâce à une approche émique du travail des anciens potiers, il est alors possible de réaliser des recherches sur des « habitus céramiques » envisagés comme des normes culturelles communes et consensuelles.
