Abstract
Dans le sillage de l’étude des sens, les sons et les bruits sont devenus depuis quelques années un objet d’histoire. L’empathie des historiens pour le son contraste avec une certaine indifférence manifestée pour le traitement des questions musicales. L’auteur s’interroge d’abord sur les raisons de cette distorsion puis confronte les travaux des historiens de l’Antiquité sur la musique et le son avec ceux des autres périodes historiques ; il étend le regard aux sciences sociales afin de montrer comment ces recherches s’insèrent dans un courant plus vaste. Aujourd’hui, les sound studies offrent des approches plurielles autour du son, du bruit et du silence qui contribuent à élargir les horizons de la recherche historique.
