Abstract
Der 2009 erschienene Roman schreibt sich harmonisch in das Gesamtwerk des Autors ein und nährt sich tendenziell von seinen Erfahrungen im frankokanadischen Exil wie auch von seiner Entwicklung zum Schriftsteller in Montreal. Im Hintergrund stehen die Erinnerungen an das Haiti aus der Zeit der Duvalier-Diktatur. Die kulturellen Unterschiede zwischen Nord und Süd sowie die vielschichtigen Bereiche der menschlichen Erinnerungskraft werden in poetischer Verdichtung überhöht, so dass man im Hinblick auf die Gattung hier eher von einem epischen Gedicht als von einem Roman sprechen kann. Der Text bewegt sich zwischen poetischen Passagen, die in der Tradition des Haiku stehen, und kurzen erzählerischen Einsprengseln.
