Scott est important à double titre.D'abord il constitue une anthologie des recherches sur le genre dans le champ des metal studies.Regroupant des articles de sociologie, de musicologie, de philosophie, d'anthropologie, de media studies ou de cultural studies, il favorise un dialogue interdisciplinaire entre ces approches concernant l'objet de recherche metal.Il constituera à cet égard un manuel de base pour tout chercheur voulant aborder la question des rapports hommes-femmes, des représentations genrées, du féminisme, de la masculinité, des problématiques homosexuelles ou queer au sein de la culture metal.Mais l'ouvrage est également important historiquement car les contributions qu'il regroupe émanent d'un des tous premiers colloques en metal studies, Heavy metal and
