Abstract
Cet article propose une lecture des livres de Lise Tremblay La héronnière , La soeur de Judith et L’Habitude des bêtes basée sur la façon originale — à notre avis sans équivalent — dont ils mettent en forme l’habitabilité des lieux exurbains de la province. Ces derniers apparaissent comme des communautés opaques et rébarbatives dont la part représentable tient à des réseaux langagiers issus de modes d’échange en principe étranger à la langue littéraire : la méfiance, la médisance, la rumeur. La tâche de l’auteure, qui s’avoue elle-même extérieure à ces réseaux, relève alors bien plus du rapiéçage que de la représentation ou du témoignage. À l’arrivée, la géographie imaginaire que cela dessine nous aide à penser plus avant le rapport de l’écrivain.e du Québec à son territoire, particulièrement en regard des notions d’authenticité et d’enracinement dont on dira que le lien aux espaces régionaux contemporains pourrait souffrir davantage de controverse.
