El abrazo de la serpiente (2015) del director Ciro Guerra es una reapropiación ficcional de los discursos antropo-científicos de Theodor Koch-Grünberg y Richard Evans Schultes sobre la Amazonía en la primera mitad del siglo XX. La película subvierte muchas de las categorías políticas y culturales que han determinado la representación de la región desde la perspectiva occidental. En particular, inscribe la sensibilidad indígena a través de lenguas, mitos e historias de las comunidades amazónicas. Al mostrar las complejas relaciones coloniales presentes en la Amazonía, la película abre un debate cultural y ecológico sobre la región, su gente y su historia.
