L’article présenté ici par Claude Payer, retrace l’histoire et les péripéties d’un tableau en relief de l’Assomption de la Vierge , sculpté par François Baillairgé en 1796 pour l’église des Éboulements. Cette pièce de notre patrimoine religieux est exceptionnelle, les hauts reliefs de Baillairgé étant rares. Elle est surtout toujours vivante, puisqu’elle est bien mise en valeur dans l’église, accrochée dans le transept gauche. Sa restauration a demandé la collaboration de plusieurs restaurateurs de disciplines différentes et a permis de remettre à jour les décors originaux de l’ensemble.
