Abstract
Cette étude quantitative explore la relation entre les configurations identitaires et les réseaux sociaux chez les adultes de la deuxième génération en Amérique du Nord. Quatre-vingt- sept participants américains (N=87) ont répondu au questionnaire récoltant des informations sur leur contexte sociodémographique, la structure de leur réseau social (interconnectivité et diversité culturelle), ainsi que la manière dont ils négocient les liens entre leurs identités culturelles (représentées par la catégorisation, compartimentation et intégration). L’analyse des corrélations et des régressions montre qu’une plus grande proximité relationnelle est reliée à l’intégration et prédit celle-ci. En outre, plus de similarité ethnique entre les individus du réseau social, incluant les participants, entraîne une plus forte prédominance vers l’identification avec la culture d’origine. Les résultats obtenus permettent d'avoir une compréhension plus approfondie et nuancée des expériences identitaires, interpersonnelles et multiculturelles des individus de la deuxième génération en Amérique du Nord.
