Abstract
Der 1945 erschienene Roman, Hauptwerk der Autorin, wird der literarischen Gattung des Landromans (‚Roman de la terre‘) zugerechnet, der während der Zwischenkriegszeit in Quebec seinen Höhepunkt erlebte. Von einer ursprünglich geplanten Trilogie wurden nur die beiden Teile Le survenant und Marie-Didace (1947) fertiggestellt.
