Abstract
Zéphirin-Alexandre-Antoine Schwerer est d’abord un grand marin. Né le 9 février 1862 à Lorient, il entre à l’École navale en octobre 1878, prélude à une carrière maritime bien remplie. Dès 1881-1882, il fait campagne aux Antilles, puis c’est Terre-Neuve en 1883 et les mers de Chine en 1884, où il participe au blocus de Formose avant d’être incorporé à la division du Levant.
