Abstract
Le tango dit « argentin », danse mondialement connue, semble exemplifier l’imbrication entre de nombreuses acceptions du « populaire », aussi bien par rapport à son développement historique que vis-à-vis des manières dans lesquelles il a été abordé par plusieurs disciplines (ethnomusicologie, anthropologie, sociologie, etc.), en Argentine ainsi qu’en Europe. Il est incontestable que le tango a servi de catalyseur dans la ville de Buenos Aires pour la fabrication d’une identité « argentine » qui néanmoins s’avère foncièrement plurielle et métissée. Le débat reste aujourd’hui ouvert quant aux apports différenciés des classes populaires et moyennes dans la socialisation des styles de danse traditionnellement attestés. Dans cette contribution, nous souhaitons, d’un côté, dresser un tableau de la complexité du caractère « populaire » du tango argentin et, de l’autre côté, problématiser la relation entre sa socialité et les effets des politiques de promotion du patrimoine culturel immatériel.
