Abstract
The tendencies of the evolution of the Archives as the institution, the social phenomenon and the space of memory, peculiarities of its content in the conditions of the informational e-environment are highlighted. It is noted on some points in the development of the theory and practice of archival science, focused on the idea of archives and archivist. The focus is on the main stages of the formation of the status of archivist in society and in the state. It is indicated on the necessity of development of archival culture and archival advocacy.
