Abstract
Journalistes, directeurs de théâtre et critiques littéraires insistent sur l’importance de la langue, du réalisme et de la représentation sociale dans le théâtre franco-manitobain des années 1970. Chacun à sa manière, ils poursuivent une réflexion sur la mise en récit des codes linguistiques en usage dans la communauté franco-manitobaine. Ils signalent aussi qu’un dénominateur commun se profile au-delà des effets stylistiques qu’occasionne l’usage d’une variété du français canadien : le franglais. Cet article met en relief quelques aspects caractéristiques de cette problématique sociolinguistique en prenant comme corpus de référence la Suite manitobaine de Roger Auger : prises de position sur le français et l’anglais, rapports entre ces langues et la littérature dramatique, émergence et autonomisation d’une dramaturgie franco-manitobaine. L’auteur les explique dans la perspective des relations complémentaires qu’entretiennent deux types de médiations sémiotiques (linguistique et institutionnel) et du sociolecte de la langue française auquel celles-ci donnent lieu.
