Abstract
À partir de l’analyse d’un corpus d’articles (1962-2019), sélectionnés dans l’hebdomadaire francophone du Manitoba La Liberté, cette étude porte sur les idéologies linguistiques qui sous-tendent les discours autour de la notion de franglais. L’analyse du corpus repose sur les questions suivantes : les idéologies linguistiques, en particulier celles du standard et de l’authentique, mises en évidence dans les autres espaces de la francophonie canadienne, se retrouvent-elles au Manitoba et donnent-elles lieu au même genre de représentations linguistiques? Si oui, suivent-elles le même développement chronologique que dans ces espaces depuis le début des années 1960? Cette analyse révèle un mouvement évolutif de la perception du franglais dans le temps assez similaire à ce qui s’observe ailleurs au Canada francophone. Elle témoigne également de tensions entre l’authenticité que permet ce vernaculaire mixte et l’impératif de la norme profondément ancré dans l’imaginaire linguistique du francophone.
