La manufacture de Sarreguemines en Lorraine voit le jour au début de la Révolution française en 1790. Au cours du XIXe siècle, l’entreprise connaît un développement constant et en 1900, elle emploie plus de 3 000 ouvriers et possède deux succursales, Digoin en Bourgogne et Vitry-le-François en Champagne.
