Abstract
El Virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humano, VIH, es el causante del Sindrome de Inmunodeficiencia Adquirida o SIDA -pandemia mundial y de complicado tratamiento-. Durante decadas, cientificos de todo el mundo han tratado sin exito aparente erradicar por completo al virus -cura funcional- o de encontrar una vacuna eficiente. Investigadores espanoles, valiendose para ello de los componentes del sistema inmune que actuan como caballo de Troya, las celulas dendriticas, y su capacidad para presentar antigenos y activar el sistema inmunologico. Se pretendia asi inducir la respuesta inmune de manera eficiente presentando un antigeno del propio virus, que previamente se habia usado para infectar este tipo de celulas -del propio paciente- aunque inactivados por calor. Otras investigaciones, realizadas en la Universidad de Rockefeller, se centraban en el uso de combinaciones de anticuerpos neutralizantes con un diseno optimizado para actuar contra el virus y evitar en la medida de lo posible que la presion evolutiva ejercida sobre el mismo genere mutantes a los que sea imposible neutralizar.
