Nous nous intéresserons ici à la fortune littéraire de Baudelaire au Québec en faisant ressortir l’influence décisive qu’il aura exercée sur trois de nos grands poètes. Saint-Denys Garneau, Anne Hébert et Jacques Brault ont en commun d’avoir fait la connaissance de l’auteur des Fleurs du mal dans leurs années de formation et de n’avoir cessé par la suite de fréquenter ses écrits. Il importe de marquer l’ascendant exercé par celui qui fut pour eux un éclaireur, pour mieux comprendre l’idée de modernité et ses manifestations littéraires au Canada français, dans la mesure où ces poètes sont devenus eux-mêmes des « phares » de la poésie québécoise.
