Objetivo: Validar preliminarmente el test de evaluacion cognitiva de Montreal en una muestra de adultos mayores. Metodos: Se realizo una investigacion de desarrollo tecnologico para obtener puntos de corte para el diagnostico del deterioro cognitivo y la demencia en una muestra de 133 pacientes mayores de 55 anos. Esta fue recogida en el Hospital Clinico Quirurgico “Hermanos Ameijeiras” y en el Policlinico 28 de enero (Playa), en el periodo de mayo a noviembre de 2017. Se aplico el test de evaluacion cognitiva de Montreal. Para el analisis estadistico se utilizaron medidas de resumen media y desviacion estandar. La comparacion de medias entre los grupos se realizo mediante el analisis de varianza de un factor. Para el calculo de los puntos de corte se utilizo la curva de caracteristicas operacionales del receptor. Resultados: Las puntuaciones medias en el test de evaluacion cognitiva de Montreal fueron de 22,6 para el grupo con deterioro cognitivo leve; 15,4 para el grupo con demencia y los controles superaron los 25 puntos. Se obtuvieron puntos de corte menor de 24,5 para diferenciar el deterioro cognitivo leve de los sujetos sanos; la sensibilidad fue de 74,5 %; y la especificidad, de 71,8 %. Puntuaciones inferiores a 18,5 apoyaron el diagnostico de demencia con una sensibilidad 72,1 % y especificidad 97,4 %. Conclusiones: El test de evaluacion cognitiva de Montreal, aplicado en los adultos mayores del estudio, resulto un instrumento confiable para la discriminacion entre la demencia y los sujetos sanos, asi como para la correcta identificacion de sujetos con deterioro cognitivo leve con niveles adecuados de especificidad y sensibilidad.
