Chez les Enata de l’île de Hiva Oa, dans l’archipel des Marquises, en Polynésie française, les pratiques éducatives en milieu domestique sont déterminées par des idéologies qui se matérialisent dans des styles éducatifs, des priorités de formation et des conceptions de réussite sociale qui sont liées non seulement à l’histoire (précoloniale, coloniale et postcoloniale) des Mers du Sud mais aussi à l’environnement naturel de l’archipel. Cet article présente les réflexions issues des observations menées sur le terrain entre 2014 et 2015, dans le cadre d’une mission ethnographique qui a montré que les dynamiques d’intégration nationale et globale ont modifié les idéologies éducatives locales – liées à l’écosystème insulaire océanien – en introduisant des nouveaux critères de réussite et en assignant un rôle prépondérant à une instruction scolaire qui reste, cependant, incapable de s’adapter aux spécificités locales et de contextualiser les programmes et les didactiques.
