Contrairement aux œuvres de sa maturité, les premières gravures de Michel Lasne restent à découvrir et à étudier pour comprendre sa formation et ses expériences artistiques. Dans ce cadre, assez exceptionnel alors, son voyage à Anvers fut déterminant. Il s’y familiarisa avec l’interprétation d’œuvres ambitieuses la plupart inventées par Rubens et il travailla dans les ateliers de Jacques de Bie, Theodore Galle et Pierre de Jode ; ses œuvres très variées, illustrations pour le livre, interprétation de tableaux et de dessins, images de piétés, recueil pour apprendre à dessiner, vont du plus médiocre au meilleur et montrent qu’il répondait à des commandes pour des publics aux exigences diverses.
